You have unfortunately stumbled down the wrong rabbit hole. No worries it's cool grab a seat, relax, enjoy yourself stay awhile. Fret not dear one I shall direct you to the correct ones in a while.
~My eccentrically odd ball ramblings and re-blogs of life, the universe, Wonderland and more.~
like all your friends go out and do things and have fun and do stupid things with their best friends and instead of doing all that you’re just sort of this mildly entertaining thing that people take an interest in once in a while but they wouldn’t really care if it was gone
like you just sort of exist but you don’t really mean anything
Laying my sword down for a second. You’re safe here. I’m not going to hack you to pieces. For the moment, at least. (See? That’s a joke. I’m normal just like you. I make jokes too.) But I warn you, this is probably not something you want to hear. Don’t be scared though….
You know what? Tess is totally right. It is not just the job of women in comics to stop this bad behavior. It should never have been their job. When our colleagues, when our fellow men harass and assuault women in comics just for being there, just for telling stories and being creative, they shouldn’t have to be the sole people to stand up and defend themselves and defend each other.
This is our world too. These are our stories and our heroes and our conventions. We should fight them for them. We should speak up. I’m tired of this bullshit. I have been with my wife every step of the way as we both tried to break into comics, and the amount of sexist bullshit that has stood in her way is astounding. Every time I talk to one of her fellow women in comics, i am astonished at the nonsense they have to put up with.
You know why all the bullshit is still there, because we let it pile up and we forced women to fight alone. We kept silent.
So this my manifesto. If I see something, i am going to say something. I am not going to sit idly by and worry about who i might embarrass or what unspoken guy rule bullshit I’m gonna break. You harass, you assault someone, you cross the line with anyone for any reason, I am not going to shut up until you are buried.
When a women comes forward about something an attack, a harassment, anything. I am not going to doubt her, or ark for proof, or blame her. I am going to go the guy and make him explain. he started it, let’s lay the blame at his feet. Let’s make him deal with the fallout, not the victim.
They say my generation is the future of comics. We’re just getting started and we’re not going to make the same mistakes as those before us. We’re not going to be silent. We’re not going to allow assaults, and harassment and misogyny in our business, in our conventions, in our industry, in our art form. We are better than that.
So that is what I promise to my wife, and to Tess, and to all the women in comics. I am standing with them and men, you can either stand with us, speak out, or you can get the hell out of our way. There is no room for you in comics anymore, if you are going to allow this nonsense.
